Ho ho ho! Christmas is nearly upon us, and we have been busy working with many cinemas to help them upgrade their screens in time for the seasonal schedules.

Philips are featured in this Newsletter as they launched their new Lightvibes technology concept this month, and we were there to experience it.

Apart from the CEA conference, there was also the CEA Christmas Party on the 10th December. It was a great event and brought many people from the industry together to enjoy themselves. Read on below for all these stories.

After what many people described as a bit of a ‘lacklustre’ 2014, next year is looking like it is going to be a real blockbuster year. Bond:Spectre, Star Wars:The Force Awakens, and  Terminator:Genisys will be heading up the franchise movies,  and with other new titles like 50 Shades of Grey and Birdman, 2015 is shaping up to beat the  all-time records.

If I didn’t have the chance to speak to you at the party or the conference, could I take this opportunity to wish you all

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

When people from our industry let their hair down, they do it properly! This was a great evening and we enjoyed seeing old friends and colleagues in an impressive and relaxed new setting. We were the sponsors of the Ballroom Bar and so we have to take our share of the blame for a very late night.

Spectacular new technology concept launched at the Genesis cinema in East London

We witnessed the world’s first PHILIPS LIGHTVIBES enhanced concert at the Genesis cinema in East London on Tuesday 2nd December. Based on a special concert by Keane in Berlin on their tenth anniversary, it featured ten ambient light panels installed at either side of the main auditorium. The panels provided an immersive visual experience, sometimes echoing and at other times counterpointing the central image on the screen… Click here read full article

Modern cinema comes to two historic venues

As part of a £13.8m refurbishment the magnificent art deco Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, having re-opened in October, is carrying out the change to digital, allowing them to re-launch their cinema facility on Christmas Eve with “It’s a Wonderful Life”. We are busily working with them on this prestige project to ensure a successful launch.

Elsewhere an old bank in Sheffield city centre is being given a new lease of life - by being turned into a ‘boutique’ cinema. In January 2015 Curzon will be opening a brand new three-screen venue in the former home of the Sheffield Banking Company, and we are their partners for the state-of-the art digital installations. More on these stories in the next Newsletter.

Apart from two historic venues, modern cinema also came to the seat of the Archbishop. We recently supported Curzon Canterbury – this is located in an old meeting hall in the Middle of Canterbury City and has a total of 200 seats spread across three screens.

Steve MacWhirter, Operations Director

“This has been an interesting month for the Operations team with two quite different trends emerging. On one hand, we have been carrying out custom installations for high profile clients, with the most incredible deadlines. In one case we installed a unique digital cinema within 7 working days of receiving the instruction. On the other hand, we have been fine-tuning our order to install approach, which is bringing greater efficiencies to a very complex and demanding series of processes. We are seeing more demands for Events cinema, which makes the technical challenge even more interesting.”

Mark Foreman, Technical Sales Manager

“We have been helping cinemas with some late requests, getting upgraded screens up and running before Christmas. It’s that time of year when our industry is uber busy, and it’s good to see box offices seeing strong demand for the seasonal shows. I am following the recently announced merger of Dolby and Doremi with interest, as it could be a significant one for our clients in the future. Here’s to a successful 2015.”
