SOUND ASSOCIATES

Welcome to the first Sound Associates email newsletter. Together with the news section of our website, we aim to use it to keep you up to date with our views of the comings and goings of the cinema industry.

I am particularly excited having attended the annual conference of the Event Cinema Association in London recently. There is real evidence now that cinema is entering an exciting new era, that started with the digital revolution and is being enhanced by alternative content of all types. I had many upbeat conversations with many of you who were there.

If you are attending the ShowEast networking event in Florida that opens this week, I look forward to seeing you there.

Global Cinema Industry News:

Holywood experience, Hollywood content

This week sees another big Hollywood event… but it’s Hollywood in Florida that is hosting the big networking event for the global movie industry. The ShowEast convention and the Expo are being held this week.
The organisers claim unparalleled networking opportunities. To underline this they have made more time available for networking and have enhanced last year’s trade show into the Expo. It certainly sounds enticing. If you would like to talk to Graham while you are there, reply to the mail to which this newsletter is attached and request a slot. Graham looks forward to catching up with you.

UK Cinema Industry News:

Events come of age at ECA Conference

This conference reinforced the exciting potential of Event Cinema for exhibitors and everyone right through the supply chain.
The outstanding success of the Billy Elliott event, shown in cinemas around the UK, and yielding £1.9m in takings, is proof that the potential of alternative content is maturing into real revenue streams. The conference was held on 16th October 2014 at the beautifully restored art deco Genesis Cinema in East London. The Event Cinema Association hosted it and now boasts 73 members, reflecting the buzz around this fast-growing and dynamic area. Indeed Event Cinema in the UK has grossed £19m in the past year.Sound Associates were sponsors of the conference and our name was everywhere. The most popular give-away was our iconic mini- cinema torch, and almost every one of the 200 attendees now have one to light up their lives.

Steve MacWhirter, Operations Director

“In the operations team, we continue to strive for improvements in all our processes in order to get the best quality of service we can provide, every time. Some of these processes touch our customers directly, others are more in the background but are arguably equally critical to our clients if they mean our service is quicker, more efficient or more consistent or even more cost effective. More on all of this next time!”

Steve MacWhirter, Operations Director, Sound Associates

Mark Foreman, Technical Sales Manager

“It’s been a hectic period for the sales team, helping cinemas that want to upgrade to the latest and greatest picture and sound. 2015 looks like being a bumper year for blockbusters, and we are already seeing lots of new requirements coming through. I have a feeling that Christmas is going to be cancelled!”
